Markela Collins, LMSW

Hi, I’m Markela, but you can call me Kela! I am a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington with my Masters of Social Work degree. I happily serve clients in Texas. Growing up in Los Angeles, I saw the huge gap between the ultra-glamorous and wealthy and everyone else. With this in mind, I began my commitment to social justice, community service, and activism at the age of 16. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

 

I care deeply about providing my services to a variety of clients. We all come from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of experiences. I am curious and open to learning about clients from all walks of life, including children, adults, survivors of intimate partner violence and abuse, and those who struggle with substance abuse and sobriety.

 

My greatest joy is in watching my clients find freedom from the struggles and problems they’re facing. When we work together, my number one priority is to make you feel safe and comfortable enough to explore your inner world and bravely take the steps towards your most liberated self.

 

My approach is largely centered around education, with a goal of breaking the stigma. I want to help you learn why you do some of the things you do, and how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact one another and your daily life. We’ll work together to stop focusing on how big and scary problems seem and find ways to overcome them. My therapeutic modalities include Trust Based Relational Intervention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

 

When I’m not seeing clients, I try to solo travel as frequently as possible. When I’m in Texas, I enjoy my time in Houston, after spending 8 years in the DFW area. I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.,
