Hi, I’m Shakirah! I am a Student Intern pursuing my Master of Social Work from Walden University. I serve clients virtually in Texas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. I chose to become a social worker because I was aided by a Medical Social Worker personally some years ago. I developed an interest in the Veteran and Military service member population along with individuals living with disabilities throughout my studies. I am fueled by seeking out different opportunities I can assist in the communities I can relate to.
I am most passionate about helping people manage their stress and mood by teaching coping skills, supporting people in learning to accept their bodies and appreciate all of who they are, and moving through life’s many ups and downs.
My favorite part about treating clients is seeing and being part of their process in growing in a positive direction in their life transitions. I love creating a safe space for clients to process their emotions and their experiences in a healthy, beneficial way.
As my client, you can expect me to put you first in every session, highlighting each of your strengths. In my gentle approach, you can expect to learn how to navigate those self-defeating thoughts, process uncomfortable emotions, and make meaningful behavioral changes, all while learning to handle any emotions that may feel uncomfortable.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, attending sporting events, family time, creating and viewing art, singing, and exploring new hiking trails.
